Procurement Lead

Provides critical leadership and support for the Supply Chain & Operations functions by analyzing, monitoring, and reporting on key data and processes. Leads purchasing activities of raw materials, supplies, and services, consistent with the Company’s business plan, budgets, requirements, and procurement policies and within the scope of authority. Plans, forecasts, and uses new technologies to control costs and identify potential expense reduction opportunities.
Gathers data, analyzes trends and reports on performance for various activities in the Supply Chain and Operations departments. Uses independent judgment to provide critical analysis. This position may also participate and assist in providing root cause analysis and corrective actions.
Major Areas of Responsibility
- Supports a growing team of 2 – 3 individuals.
- Sources aggregate volumes based on the demand plan for raw materials to support operations.
- Leads efforts to source new and substitute materials where appropriate. Stays current within the assigned area of material expertise to ensure the latest technology is available if applicable. Develops a favorable and ongoing working relationship with key suppliers to ensure reasonable pricing and service level required by the Company.
- Leads negotiations of major supply contracts with key suppliers. Works with suppliers on cost savings initiatives and continuous improvements. Identifies ways to drive quality, service, cost, or IMPACT improvement with our suppliers and manufacturers.
- Analyzes raw material to identify obsolete materials. Works within the organization to determine disposition of obsolete materials. As well as managing the assigned commodity inventory cycle counts. Evaluate transactions to resolve count discrepancies and maintain cycle counting records.
- Establish guidelines and procedures for purchasing and monitor contracts for compliance with such procedures. Updates and maintains database to assure correct pricing.
- Performs supplier evaluations in reference to vendor pricing, service, on time delivery and quality. This evaluation is reviewed with strategic suppliers and used for the selection of suppliers for future business and provides basis for corrective action if needed.
- Drives procurement related tasks for New Product Introduction in line with the project plans. Active participant in project teams and provides input to other functional areas in the organization.
- Keeps organization and customers current on raw material market trends, provides input to buyer about strategic inventory strategies to balance excess/obsolete inventory risk and raw material inventory outage risk.
- Supports Intek Plastics, Inc. policies and procedures and conducts departmental and Company activities in accordance with these policies.
- Leads and assists in projects as assigned by Supply Chain Manager and other duties as assigned. Keeps the Supply Chain Manager informed of matters relating to procurement, pricing, and supplier relations.
- Every employee is expected to support the INTEK Quality Management System (QMS) in accordance with our Quality System Manual and Documented Procedures.
- Performs other accountabilities as apparent or assigned.
Qualifications
Education/Experience
- Four-year related degree.
- APICS certification preferred.
- Lean manufacturing concepts and continuous improvement experience.
- Minimum 5 plus years of experience with increased responsibilities in a Supply Chain, Procurement and/or Analyst role.

- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with quickly changing priorities to ensure superior customer satisfaction.
- Ability to work and make decisions independently.
Responsibility for Work of Others
This position has 2-3 direct reports.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to occasionally lift (weekly) up to 25 pounds and rarely lift up to 50 pounds.
- Regular, predictable attendance is an essential function of this position.
Additional Information
Salaried (exempt) employees are expected to work an average of 45 or more hours per week unless otherwise determined by their manager.
We select our initial pay range based on reliable compensation survey data. Other factors we consider in setting the specific pay for an individual will generally include, among other things, experience, specialized skills, work location, and internal equity to provide competitive offers.
