Sept 17, National POW/MIA Recognition Day, was established in 1979 through a proclamation signed by President Jimmy Carter. Since then, each subsequent president has issued an annual proclamation commemorating the third Friday in September as National POW/MIA Recognition Day. https://dpaa-mil.sites.crmforce.mil/dpaaFamWebPosters Freedom Flight POW/MIA Hot Air Balloon Tethering Community Event, Freedom Flight is a nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization that flies hot air balloons to support the Prisoner of War / Missing in Action issues. They are privately funded by random donors, like you. They are all volunteers! Their volunteers manage all aspects of our operation. Everything from the pilots, the crew, the artwork, the website, the events are all developed by volunteers. Free flights, but voluntary donations, are collected to “Continue the Mission”: Sep 17, 5 PM, Calvary Christian Church, 907 West 15th Street, Hastings Sep 18. 5 PM, Bay Point Park, located on Levee Road, north of Highway 61 along the Mississippi River. Red Wing MN. This beautiful park, located along the winding Mississippi River near downtown Red Wing, is the location for many community celebrations. Nearby is the historic Boat House Village where one of the only remaining "gin pole" installations is located. This village has provided limitless inspiration for artists and photographers.
