Fire Prevention Week is October 5-11, and the Hastings Fire Department will host its annual Open House on Tuesday, October 7, at 7:00 p.m. This year's Fire Prevention Week theme is "Working Smoke Alarms Save Lives, Test Yours Every Month!" According to the National Fire Protection Agency (NFPA), working smoke alarms cut the chance of dying in a fire in half. A large number of home fire deaths result from fires reported at night between 11:00 p.m. and 7:00 a.m. when most people are asleep. Working home smoke alarms can alert occupants before fire spreads; giving enough time to get out.
This year's event will include demonstrations and displays from the Hastings Fire Department, Hastings Police Department, and other public safety agencies. See a fire extinguisher demonstration, climb in an ambulance and a fire truck, take a peek at our ladder truck, try the smoke house demonstrations, and enjoy refreshments.
